C1 Tourist Visa Extension: How It Works in 2026

Planning a trip to Indonesia? Visa processing takes time

100% Online Application Quick Turnaround Times Licensed & Experienced Agents Multilingual Customer Support Transparent, Fixed Pricing

You entered Indonesia on a Tourist Visa (C1) with 60 days to explore Bali. If you want more time without leaving the country, you can extend twice. Each extension adds another 60 days, taking you from 60 to 120 to 180 days total on a single visit.

This guide explains how C1 extensions work in 2026: when to apply, what documents you need, what it costs, and what to do when you reach the 180-day limit. If you are still choosing a visa, start with our complete Bali visa guide or the B1/B2 vs E33G vs C1 comparison.

The 60 to 120 to 180 day timeline

Your C1 stay clock starts on your date of entry, not the day your e-visa was approved. Immigration stamps your passport on arrival, and that stamp is what counts.

Here is how the extension path works:

  • Days 1 to 60: Your initial C1 stay
  • First extension: Adds 60 days (total 120)
  • Second extension: Adds another 60 days (total 180)

C1 and B1/B2 share the same 180-day ceiling. The difference is usually who needs C1 and how you applied. C1 is common for nationalities that cannot use Visa on Arrival, or for travellers who want a pre-approved e-visa before flying. For a side-by-side look at stay limits, read VOA vs B1/B2 vs C1.

Important: C1 is single entry. If you leave Indonesia, the visa ends. You cannot re-enter on the same C1, even if days remain on paper.

Who can extend a C1 tourist visa?

You can apply for extensions if:

  • You entered on a valid Tourist Visa C1
  • Your passport is still valid (see passport validity rules)
  • You have not used both extensions already
  • You are still within your permitted stay when you apply

You cannot extend if you have overstayed, your passport is close to expiry, or immigration flags a compliance issue. Fix your status before the expiry date, not at the airport on departure day.

When to start each extension

Timing matters. Immigration offices in Bali get busy, and applications take several working days to process.

First extension (60 to 120 days): Start around day 50 of your stay. Do not wait until day 58 or 59.

Second extension (120 to 180 days): Start around day 110. Same rule: give yourself a buffer of at least 7 to 10 days before your current stay ends.

If your visa expires while an application is pending, you can fall into overstay territory. Daily fines add up fast. Use our overstay calculator to see what a few days late could cost, and read Indonesia overstay fines in 2026 for the full picture.

Documents you will need

Requirements can vary slightly by immigration office, but most C1 extension applications include:

  • Original passport with your current entry stamp
  • Copy of passport bio page and visa page
  • Copy of your C1 e-visa (the approval email or PDF)
  • Passport-style photo (recent, white background)
  • Proof of accommodation in Bali (hotel booking, villa rental, or sponsor letter)
  • Sponsorship documents from your sponsoring company (handled by your agent if you applied through one)

If your passport has less than 12 months validity, renew it before applying for an extension. Immigration may reject applications on passports that will expire soon.

Double-check every name, passport number, and date. Typos are a leading cause of delays. Our visa rejection guide covers the most common mistakes.

First extension: step by step (60 to 120 days)

  1. Confirm your expiry date from your passport stamp or e-visa record.
  2. Gather documents listed above. If you used Bali Visa Hub for your original C1, contact us and we will prepare the extension file.
  3. Submit the extension application through your agent or at the immigration office (Kantor Imigrasi Kelas I Denpasar for most Bali residents).
  4. Pay the extension fee. The standard service fee through Bali Visa Hub is IDR 3,500,000 for the first extension, which adds 60 days.
  5. Attend in person if required. Some cases need a biometric visit or passport handover. Your agent will tell you whether you must appear.
  6. Collect your updated documents and confirm your new permitted stay date before leaving the office.

You do not need to leave Indonesia during a C1 extension. The whole process happens while you remain in the country.

Second extension: step by step (120 to 180 days)

The second extension follows the same process:

  1. Start around day 110 of your total stay.
  2. Submit updated documents (accommodation proof, passport copies, sponsorship).
  3. Pay the second extension fee (IDR 3,500,000 for another 60 days).
  4. Confirm your new expiry date in writing before you leave.

After the second extension is approved, you have reached the maximum 180 days allowed on a single C1 visit. There is no third extension on this visa category.

Agent-assisted vs DIY at immigration

You can extend a C1 yourself at the immigration office, or use a licensed agent.

DIY at immigration:

  • Lower upfront service cost
  • You handle document preparation, queuing, and follow-up
  • Office hours and language barriers can slow things down
  • One missing document can mean starting over

Agent-assisted extension:

  • Documents checked before submission
  • Sponsorship and company paperwork handled for you
  • Clear timeline and status updates
  • Service fee on top of government charges

Many C1 holders originally applied through an agent because the visa requires company sponsorship. Extending through the same partner keeps sponsorship consistent and reduces rejection risk.

What it costs in 2026

Through Bali Visa Hub's C1 service, extension pricing is:

  • 1st extension: IDR 3,500,000 (60 additional days)
  • 2nd extension: IDR 3,500,000 (60 additional days)

This includes coordination, document preparation, and immigration processing support. Government fees are covered within the package.

Compare with B1/B2 extension costs, which follow the same 60/120/180 structure at a similar price point.

What happens after 180 days?

Once you have used both extensions, your legal options are:

  • Leave Indonesia before your final expiry date
  • Apply for a different visa category that matches your actual purpose (for example E33G if you work remotely for overseas clients)
  • Exit and apply for a new visa if you plan to return later

You cannot simply start another C1 extension on the same visit. Staying past 180 days without a new permit triggers overstay fines and possible deportation.

C1 extension vs B1/B2 extension

The extension mechanics are nearly identical:

The main difference is who applies and why. C1 suits travellers who need a pre-arranged tourist e-visa, often because VOA is not available for their nationality. B1/B2 suits longer social and cultural stays for eligible nationalities. See our B1/B2 extension guide for the parallel process.

Common C1 extension mistakes

  • Waiting until the last day to apply. Processing takes time.
  • Assuming your e-visa approval date is your start date. Entry stamp rules.
  • Leaving Indonesia briefly and expecting the C1 to still work. Single entry means it does not.
  • Working or earning income on a tourist visa. Remote work needs E33G. Read can you work remotely on a tourist visa in Bali?
  • Ignoring passport expiry. Renew early if you plan a second extension.
  • Planning a "visa run" instead of a proper extension. Overstay days still count.

Frequently asked questions

Can I extend a C1 more than twice?

No. Two extensions is the maximum. After 180 days total, you must leave or change visa category.

Do I need to visit the immigration office in person?

Often yes, at least once per extension. Your agent will confirm whether your presence is required.

Can I switch from C1 to B1/B2 while in Indonesia?

Usually you need to exit and apply fresh, or use a bridging arrangement in specific cases. Rules depend on your current status. Contact us with your dates for advice.

What if my extension is rejected?

Common causes include incomplete documents, passport issues, or applying too late. Review our rejection guide and speak to an agent immediately. Do not let your stay expire while you figure it out.

Is C1 better than VOA for a 60-day trip?

If you qualify for VOA, it is cheaper and faster for short stays. C1 makes more sense when you need a pre-approved visa or plan the full 180-day path from the start. See how to apply for e-VOA online for the VOA route.
